The Delhi High Court on Thursday, October 1, granted bail to Mohd Shahzad Kamal, an alleged operative of the pro-ISIS group Harkat-ul-Harb-E-Islam, in an ongoing anti-terror case.
A bench comprising Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Arun Bhardwaj pronounced the decision allowing Kamal’s release. A detailed copy of the high court’s judgment remains awaited.
Kamal had petitioned the high court after his bail plea was turned down by a trial court on May 29, 2024. He has been in custody since August 31, 2021, following his arrest by the National Investigation Agency in connection with a case initially registered in 2018 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
According to allegations by the NIA, Kamal participated in a criminal conspiracy alongside other co-accused to carry out acts of terrorism. The agency further accused him of wilfully abetting the group by transferring funds on multiple occasions to finance the jihadi operations of Harkat-ul-Harb-E-Islam, an outfit affiliated with the banned organization ISIS.
