Today, the Supreme Court disposed of a petition filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association that challenged the SOP put in place for a hybrid system of hearings at the Supreme Court.
The Bench opined that there is little that they can do, and the Administrative side should tend the matter.
SCBA President Vikas Singh took objection to the matter and stated that they have no choice but to take the agitational path.
After the Court pronounced the order, counsels appearing for various parties requested the Court reconsider its order. Senior Counsel Mahalakshmi Pavani who appeared on behalf of SCBA, submitted that the SCBA President was not consulted before the SOP was finalised.
Lack of facilities for hybrid hearings in trial courts was something that Senior Advocate Geeta Luthra pointed out to the Court.
The SCBA President remarked that if the Court takes this approach, they will take the law into their own hands.
However, the Court opined that the approach taken by the SCBA President would take him nowhere.
