In one of the highest compensation settlements of the year in Thane district, the Lok Adalat on Saturday awarded Rs 2.2 crore to the family of a man who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in 2023.
The cheque was handed over by Principal District Judge S.B. Agrawal in the presence of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) Member S.N. Shah and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Ishwar Suryavanshi.
According to case details, 44-year-old Pradip Nagtilak was riding pillion on a friend’s motorcycle in Dombivli when the vehicle skidded. Both sustained injuries and were immediately taken to a hospital, where Nagtilak succumbed to his injuries within hours.
The compensation was awarded to Nagtilak’s surviving family members, including his wife, parents, and two children. Advocate Keshava Poojari, representing the insurance company, confirmed that this is the highest compensation settlement achieved through Lok Adalat proceedings in Thane this year.
