In a shocking scam incident, X, a Supreme Court lawyer, was swindled out of Rs 38,000 after ordering an iPhone 15 from Amazon. The ordeal began when X opted to upgrade his iPhone 13 through an Amazon exchange offer, placing his order on July 21, 2024.
The delivery executive arrived at X’s home on July 22 at 9:30 PM, initiating what would become a troubling series of events. After handing over the new iPhone 15, the executive requested an OTP, which X provided as part of the exchange. Unexpectedly, the executive asked for another OTP, claiming it was necessary to complete the exchange process. When X expressed that no additional OTP was available, the executive called his supervisor, Ashok.
Ashok advised that a specialized team was needed for the exchange and persuaded X to return the new iPhone, assuring him the process would be completed the following day. With some reluctance, X handed back the iPhone 15, keeping the contact details of both the delivery executive, Vishal, and Ashok.
When no follow-up occurred, X reached out to Amazon’s customer service, only to be told to wait until July 31 for the completion of an investigation. The investigation’s conclusion, however, brought no solace, as Amazon informed X that a refund was not possible, stating no clear evidence was provided during their inquiry.
