On Monday, the Supreme Court advised Justice Uman Nath Singh’s lawyer that it is better to resign from the post of Lokayukta rather than demeaning himself and the offices held by him.

The Nagaland Government has filed a plea before the Supreme Court seeking removal of Justice Uman Nath Singh from the post of Lokayukta Nagaland. In its plea, the Government has alleged various action of impropriety and unjustified personal demand by Justice Singh.

The Bench headed by Hon’ble CJI SA Bobde advised him that it’s better to leave the post and put the matter at rest. The Court asked his lawyer”

“When there is no dignity in continuing, why go through all this and insist to continue at any cost?”

One of the allegation in the plea of government is that Justice Uma Nath Singh is working from Delhi through Online mode though the same is not approved by Chief Secretary.

To this, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Justice submitted that he is working from Delhi due to COVID 19 outbreak.  But the argument did not found favour to the bench.

Now the matter has been directed to be listed after a wee and in the mean time, Justice Uman Nath Singh has been given time to consider the advice of the court.
