In a decisive move, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court imposed a fine of two lakh rupees on Lucknow University for its negligence in handling the results of a graduate student. The court ordered that the university must compensate the student within two months, highlighting the serious nature of the administrative oversight.
Justice Alok Mathur of the single-judge bench delivered the judgment in favor of Priyanka Dubey, a former BSc third-year student whose petition dated back to events starting in 2009. The university had withheld her results due to certain allegations, which she addressed, yet no timely resolution was provided by the university administration.
Despite her efforts to clarify the situation, the university did not act promptly. In 2014, she was instructed to reappear for the exams for the academic year 2014-15 on November 15, 2014. This order mirrored an earlier directive given in 2012, which had not been communicated to her, causing significant distress and disruption to her academic progress.
