In a significant legal development, the Additional Court in Thiruvananthapuram has attached a piece of land owned by Farida Fathima, the wife of DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, following a complaint filed by local resident Umar Sherif. The dispute centers around an alleged failure to refund an advance payment made for the purchase of the land, leading to heightened legal scrutiny involving the top police official and his spouse.
The court has specifically targeted 10 cents of land located at Nettayam, issuing a stringent order that prevents any transactions related to this property. The legal action stems from accusations that the land, which was under a mortgage, was deceptively agreed to be sold to Sherif. According to Sherif, he paid a total of Rs 30 lakhs in three separate installments as an advance for the land purchase.
The situation escalated when DGP Sahib allegedly requested an additional Rs 25 lakhs shortly after the initial agreement. Sherif’s request to review the property documents led to the discovery of existing financial liabilities amounting to Rs 26 lakhs against the property at the Althara SBI branch. This revelation prompted Sherif to withdraw from the contract, but the promised refund has been pending for over a year.
The court’s preliminary findings suggest that Sherif has a strong prima facie case. The order highlighted concerns that the respondents might dispose of the contested property in a manner that could obstruct the judicial process. As a result, the court has directed DGP Sahib and his wife to show cause why they should not be ordered to provide security for the claim laid out in Sherif’s complaint.
