The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed a plea that sought to disqualify Prime Minister Narendra Modi from contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, labeling the allegations as “reckless” and “unsubstantiated.” Justice Sachin Datta highlighted that the petition appeared tainted by malafide intentions and oblique motives, rendering it inadmissible in court.
The plea, filed by Captain Deepak Kumar, accused Prime Minister Modi and several others of attempting to destabilize national security by allegedly orchestrating a fatal crash of an Air India flight in 2018, which Captain Kumar claimed to have piloted. The court found these claims to be vague and unsupported by substantial evidence, noting the overall tenor of the petition suggested malafide intent.
Additionally, the petition called for the cancellation of the candidature of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, citing similar grounds. It alleged that the Prime Minister had provided false declarations during his nomination process and accused him of involvement in the destruction of evidence related to the sale of Air India Limited, which purportedly led to the cancellation of Captain Kumar’s pilot license and service record alterations.

The court decisively rejected the petition, stating it was evidently intended to scandalize public figures without substantiation, and dismissed it as “totally absurd.”
