In the latest development regarding the alleged excise policy scandal, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until May 7. Kejriwal, who appeared via video conferencing, remains embroiled in a case accusing him of money laundering linked to Delhi government’s excise policy.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja also extended the custody of two other accused, BRS leader K Kavita and AAP’s alleged fund manager Charanpreet Singh, indicating ongoing investigations into the case. Kejriwal was initially arrested on March 21 and has been held in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since then.
Background of the Case
The allegations stem from irregularities in the Delhi government’s new excise policy, with Kejriwal accused of laundering money through this scheme. Prior to his arrest, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued multiple summons to Kejriwal, which he contested up to the Delhi High Court, only to be rejected.
Political Repercussions and Allegations
Kejriwal’s arrest occurred just before local elections, sparking controversy and accusations from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against the central government. AAP claims that the central government is using federal agencies to suppress opposition voices for personal and political gain.
