Delhi High Court Round Up for Monday

Important cases heard in the Delhi High Court on Monday, October 9:

*NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha, arrested in a case lodged under anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly receiving money to spread pro-China propaganda, told HC the allegations against him were “false” and “bogus”, and “not a penny has come from China”.

* HC reserved order on Purkayastha and human resources department head Amit Chakravarty challenging their arrest and police custody in the case.

* BJP leader Subramanian Swamy Monday approached HC over the alleged failure of authorities to decide under the Right to Information Act his application seeking details of “Chinese encroachment on Indian territory” from the central government.

* Solicitor General Tushar Mehta indicated before HC that a review petition may be filed against a recent Supreme Court direction to the Enforcement Directorate to henceforth furnish the grounds of arrest to the accused in writing “without exception”.

* HC set aside the transfer of case concerning the disciplinary proceedings against 1998 batch of Bihar Cadre IPS officer Amit Lodha from the Patna Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to New Delhi.

* HC announced that on October 11, it will start live-streaming of proceedings in the court presided by its Chief Justice.
