On Saturday, the Coordination Committee of the Supreme Court clarified that once physical hearing resumes at the Supreme Court, parties will have the option to either opt for virtual hearing or physical hearing.
This clarification came in a meeting held on Saturday where discussions were held regarding the resumption of physical hearings by a coordination committee held by the Supreme Court along with Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association and Supreme Court Bar Association.
Previously the Supreme Court notified that physical courts would resume along with virtual courts. Now, the Apex Court explained that lawyers and parties in person would have the option to either go for physical hearing or virtual hearings. Therefore, during the hearings, one party can appear virtually while the other can appear physically.
The Apex Court also assured that all courts would resume physically in the said hybrid manner, and they will also release Standard Operating Procedures.
Many parties/people have approached the Chief Justice of India seeking resumption of physical court hearings. Before the Court, the Executive Committee of Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Advocates On Record Association have submitted a joint representation seeking resumption of physical hearings after a joint meeting.
The Supreme Court Advocates On Record Association had also written to the CJI seeking resumption of physical hearings with the existing virtual Courts in a hybrid manner.
