Supreme Court to Hear BRS Leader K. Kavitha’s Bail Pleas on August 12

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on August 12 for the bail pleas of BRS leader K. Kavitha, challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny her bail in cases related to corruption and money laundering linked to the Delhi excise policy scam. The pleas, set for consideration by Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan, come after the High Court’s verdict on July 1, which rejected her bail applications in both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases.

The High Court had described Kavitha as a prime conspirator in the criminal conspiracy behind the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Rejecting her bail on several grounds, including her status as a woman and a former MP, the court emphasized the serious nature of the allegations against her.

Kavitha, 46, was arrested on March 15 from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad by the ED and subsequently by the CBI in Tihar jail. She has contended that the accusations are part of a politically motivated campaign orchestrated by the central ruling party, alleging no involvement in the excise policy.
