SC Issues Notice to Lokayukta Justice Uma Nath Singh.

Based on a plea filed by the State Government of Nagaland

where it was alleged that Justice Uma Nath Singh is abusing his power, showing impropriety and is indulging in self centrism.

A three-Judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India S.A Bobde direct

the Lokayukta to file their response within two weeks.

In their plea, the State Government stated that Justice Singh had issued self-serving regulations and insisted on working from Delhi instead of Kohima.

It was further allege that he want to continue as an arbitrator in a case even after his appointment. 

Counsel for the petitioner prayed the Supreme Court to use its power under Article 142 to ensure that

the sanctity and institutional integrity of the Lokayukta should be maintain.

The state government stated that Justice Singh has no respect for the rule of law and

the way he makes his decision indicates that he is unfit to hold the office of the Lokayukta.

Some example given by the State government included the fact that Justice Singh had sought an exemption

from frisking at the Guwahati Airport, he also wanted the Bungalow of former Chief Minister allotted to him,

he chose a bungalow for himself and made the government spend a considerable amount of money to renovate it and many such cases.

It was further allege that he was prejudice against the Naga people.

Justice Singh was given appointment as a Lokayaukta on 13.03.2019.
