In an extraordinary sequence of events, a man from Rajasthan resorted to committing crimes as a desperate measure to prove his existence after being erroneously declared dead by government authorities.
Baburam Bhil, a resident of Mithora village in the Balotra area, found himself in a Kafkaesque scenario when he was issued a death certificate in his own name. This administrative error plunged his life into chaos, stripping him of his legal identity and threatening his property and rights.
Despite Bhil’s relentless efforts to rectify the mistake through legal channels, his pleas fell on deaf ears, leaving him invisible in the eyes of the law. Driven to the brink of despair, Bhil devised a plan that he believed would force the authorities to acknowledge his existence: committing a crime to get officially recognized by the police.
In a shocking move, Bhil armed himself with knives and a bottle of petrol and attacked two teachers and a parent at a local school. The incident, which resulted in immediate police intervention, finally brought Bhil the attention he sought, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

During his arrest and subsequent interrogation, Bhil revealed the bizarre rationale behind his actions, highlighting his predicament. “I had no choice but to make them see I was alive. I feared my property would soon be claimed by others due to the death certificate,” Bhil reportedly told the police.
