The Karnataka High Court on Thursday held off on making a decision regarding a plea by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to cancel the bail of Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Revanna. Revanna is implicated in an abduction case, allegedly committed to prevent a woman from testifying against his son, Prajwal Revanna, in a separate rape charge.
The case, which has attracted significant attention, involves serious allegations against Prajwal Revanna, a former MP, accused of raping the woman in question. The SIT argued that H D Revanna facilitated the abduction to obstruct her testimony.
During the proceedings, Justice M Nagaprasanna remarked on the disturbing nature of the allegations, particularly highlighting the “gory” details surrounding the case. He expressed concerns about the decision made by the Special MP/MLA court to grant bail under such grave circumstances.
Senior Advocate Ravivarma Kumar, representing the SIT, strongly advocated for the revocation of bail, pointing out that the initial granting of bail by the trial court was improper given the severity of the charges.
On the other hand, Senior Advocate C V Nagesh, who represented H D Revanna, challenged the push for bail cancellation. He argued that the kidnapping charges were baseless since the woman was not a minor and that the abduction did not involve deceit or coercion. Nagesh described the woman as a maidservant in the Revanna household, who was simply called without any deceit or threat.

Further defending Revanna, Nagesh stated that there was no evidence suggesting that the domestic helper was abducted on the orders of H D Revanna or his wife Bhavani Revanna.
