On Monday, the Allahabad High Court heard the suo motu PIL of the police assault on Etah Lawyer Shri Rajendra Sharma. CJM Etah filed his inquiry in a sealed cover, which was taken on record.
A Bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Hon’ble Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery heard the matter. The UP Bar Council also submitted its report in a sealed envelope and filed a supplementary affidavit. The Council has prayed for a probe by an independent agency like CBI or Crime Branch of CID.
The Bench has directed to supply the copy of the inquiry report of CJM Etah to the counsels appearing on behalf of Bar Council, High Court Bar Association Allahabad, and the Additional Advocate General.
Now the matter has been posted for 19 January 2021.
Last month a video surfaced in social media where some policemen were brutally beating and threshing a lawyer of Etah, which led to agitation amongst the lawyers of UP.
On request from the State Bar Council, Bar Association and several lawyers the High Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter and directed CJM Etah to conduct an inquiry and submit report.
