In an unprecedented move, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has arranged a special screening of the Bollywood film Laapataa Ladies for all Supreme Court judges, their spouses, and members of the registry. This event, scheduled for tomorrow, will take place in the Supreme Court’s administrative building auditorium and will be attended by the movie’s star producer, Aamir Khan, and director Kiran Rao.
The initiative, organized by the Communication Division of the Supreme Court, is part of a broader gender sensitization program championed by the Chief Justice throughout the year. The screening is not only a gesture towards promoting gender sensitivity but also aims to foster a sense of community and relaxation among the staff.
The idea was inspired by Kalpana Das, wife of the Chief Justice, who was deeply moved by the film’s message when she watched it with her staff. Encouraged by this experience, she suggested the screening to further the cause of gender awareness within the judiciary.
“It is my initiative to sensitise the Supreme Court staff, and this screening is part of many such efforts that are often not publicized. Alongside, we have also established a round-the-clock Ayurvedic clinic to provide treatment and relaxation for our staff members. Events like these are important for team bonding as well,” said CJI Chandrachud, highlighting the court’s commitment to the welfare and enlightenment of its personnel.
