Supreme Court Launches ‘Jan Soochna Seva’ to Provide Simplified Hindi Summaries of Key Judgments

The Supreme Court on Monday launched “Jan Soochna Seva”, a Hindi-language public information initiative aimed at making important judgments and court proceedings easier for ordinary citizens and litigants to understand.

Announced on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, the service will provide simplified Hindi summaries of selected significant judgments and orders. It will also offer audio and video bulletins in Hindi, with each bulletin running for approximately 15 to 30 minutes.

Simplifying Access to Judicial Information

According to a press statement, the initiative has been designed particularly for ordinary citizens, litigants and persons with disabilities who may face difficulty in understanding lengthy legal documents.

Through simplified language and audio-visual formats, the service will explain significant judgments, their implications and subsequent proceedings in a language familiar to users.

The Supreme Court said the initiative seeks to widen access to justice while connecting the recognition given to Indian languages with the dissemination of judicial information among the public.

The audio and video formats are also expected to assist people who find reading or comprehending lengthy legal documents difficult.

Other Indian Languages to Follow

While “Jan Soochna Seva” is being introduced initially in Hindi, the Supreme Court said work would soon begin to extend the service to other Indian languages in phases.
