The designation process involves a rigorous evaluation by the Full Court, considering the advocates’ expertise, contribution to the development of law, and their conduct before the High Court of Chhattisgarh.

The title of Senior Advocate is granted under Section 16 of the Advocates Act, 1961, which distinguishes advocates into two categories: Senior Advocates and other advocates. This status brings with it certain professional restrictions—such as the requirement to be assisted by a junior advocate and a prohibition on filing wakalatnamas—intended to uphold the highest standards of the legal profession.
