Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha Lays Foundation Stone for New District Court Building at Ambikapur, Inaugurates Judicial Officers’ Residential Complex in Surajpur

Bilaspur, 18 August 2026: On 18 August 2026, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur, took an important step towards strengthening Judicial infrastructure by virtually performing the Bhumi Pujan and laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the new District & Sessions Court Building in District Surguja (Ambikapur) and virtually inaugurating the newly constructed bungalow of the Principal District & Sessions Judge at Gayatri Nagar West, Surajpur, and the residential complex for Judicial Officers at Pachira, Surajpur.

The programme was graced by the distinguished virtual presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Parth Prateem Sahu, Judge, High Court of Chhattisgarh and Portfolio Judge, Surguja (Ambikapur), and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Radhakishan Agrawal, Judge, High Court of Chhattisgarh and Portfolio Judge, Surajpur.

On the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha, in his inspiring address, stated that all necessary preparations had been completed for the Bhumi Pujan of the new District Court Building at Surguja. He informed that the proposed building would comprise four floors and 24 courtrooms, along with various other facilities connected with the functioning of the Court. Administrative sanction amounting to ₹46,02,52,000 has also been granted, and the stakeholders would soon issue the Work Order. He directed that the building should be constructed in such a manner that it becomes a model for other court buildings in the State.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice appealed to everyone to take care of the new building, consider it their own, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene. He also called upon Judicial Officers to enhance their efficiency so that speedy Justice could be delivered to those seeking justice.

Expressing satisfaction over the newly constructed bungalow of the Principal District & Sessions Judge and the residential colony for Judicial Officers at Surajpur, Hon’ble the Chief Justice observed that these facilities have been developed with essential basic amenities. He congratulated the Principal District & Sessions Judge and all Judicial Officers who would reside there and urged them to work diligently so that the facilities provided by the High Court contribute to a better working environment and improve the functioning of both the Courts and Judicial Officers.

It is noteworthy that the new District & Sessions Court Building at Surguja (Ambikapur) is being constructed at a cost of ₹46,02,52,000. The building, extending from the ground floor to the fourth floor, will have several modern facilities, including parking, central filing, e-Seva Kendra, entry and exit facilities, canteen, courtrooms, waiting rooms, reader rooms, stenographer rooms, rest rooms, conference hall, VC room, witness rooms, VIP waiting area, judicial record room, malkhana, advocates hall, washrooms and other facilities.

At Surajpur, 12 residential houses have been constructed for Judicial Officers at a cost of ₹708.19 lakh, comprising one B-Type bungalow for the Principal District & Sessions Judge, three D-Type and eight E-Type residential houses for Judicial Officers.

It is also noteworthy that the Hon’ble Chief Justice has been continuously undertaking visits to remote district headquarters and outlying courts across the State of Chhattisgarh and making sustained efforts towards strengthening Judicial infrastructure and providing necessary facilities.

The programme commenced with the welcome address by the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Surguja (Ambikapur), and concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Surajpur.

The programme was attended virtually by the Registrar General and officers of the Registry of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, Judicial and administrative officers of Surguja and Surajpur districts, officers of the Public Works Department, office-bearers and members of the Bar Association, Court staff, and representatives of electronic and print media.
