The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Rajeev Nayan Mishra, also known as Rahul Mishra, in connection with the paper leak scandal of the review officer/assistant review officer examination overseen by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The decision was made on Wednesday, providing some relief to Mishra, who has been labeled the ‘mastermind’ behind the leak.
Mishra was arrested following the registration of an FIR at the Civil Lines police station in Prayagraj. His legal troubles compounded when a case under the Gangsters’ Act was subsequently filed against him by the Kaushambi police. Despite being granted bail in the Prayagraj case, Mishra remains in custody due to the pending bail application in the Gangsters’ Act case.
Justice Sanjay Kumar Pachori presided over the bail hearing, where Mishra’s counsel argued for his release based on the precedent set by the bail granted to other co-accused individuals in the same case. The judge granted bail, accepting the argument of parity as presented by Mishra’s defense.
Mishra is also implicated as the mastermind in a separate case involving the paper leak of a police constable recruitment exam, suggesting a pattern of involvement in competitive examination frauds.
The RO/ARO examination in question took place on February 11, 2024, and was quickly followed by allegations of a leak. UPPSC Secretary Ashok Kumar formally lodged a criminal complaint on March 2 at the Civil Lines police station against unknown individuals involved in the paper leakage.
