The Bombay High Court has announced that no adverse or dismissal orders will be issued against litigants or lawyers who are unable to reach courtrooms on Monday due to the torrential rains disrupting the region.
Judicial Protection For Absent Counsel
Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge delivered the assurance to lawyers’ associations on Monday morning. The temporary protective measure applies to all High Court benches operating across Mumbai, ensuring that legal representatives and their clients are not penalized for absences caused by the severe weather.
Severe Weather Warnings Active
The judicial directive comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a “red” alert on Monday for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. Meteorologists have forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by powerful winds throughout the day.
Due to the hazardous conditions, weather officials have appealed to the public to avoid all non-essential travel. The IMD warned that the intense downpours could quickly inundate low-lying and urban areas, raising the risk of localized flash floods across the affected districts.
