Bhopal Dowry Death: Lawyer Approaches CJI, Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice For Fair Probe Into Twisha Sharma’s Suspicious Death

A local advocate has petitioned the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking urgent judicial intervention and an impartial investigation into the suspicious death of Twisha Sharma. The Noida woman was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, amid allegations of severe dowry harassment.

The representation, sent by Advocate Vivek Tiwari, follows a direct appeal for justice from the deceased’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, who approached the lawyer via email.

“Grave and Sensitive” Circumstances Surrounding the Case

In his formal letter addressed to the constitutional authorities, Advocate Vivek Tiwari emphasized that the facts of the case demand high-level oversight.

“The facts and circumstances narrated by him appear to be highly grave, sensitive and legally significant,” Tiwari stated in his letter to the CJI and the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

At the center of the family’s apprehension is the profile of the victim’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, who is named as one of the key accused in the matter. Singh is a retired Additional District Judge and currently serves as the chairperson of the District Consumer Forum in Bhopal.

According to the letter, the pre-arrest relief granted to the influential mother-in-law has created deep anxiety within Twisha’s family regarding the integrity of the local police probe.

Apprehensions of Evidence Tampering and Witness Influence

The petition highlights grave concerns raised by the victim’s father over the potential compromise of crucial evidence. The letter states that Navnidhi Sharma has “expressed concern regarding the possibility of influencing witnesses, tampering with evidence and destroying vital forensic material.”

In light of these fears, the advocate has urged the judicial authorities to step in to ensure an independent, fair, and impartial investigation. Specifically, the petition seeks directions for the immediate preservation of all forensic and electronic evidence related to the case before it can be altered or destroyed.

Arrest Warrant Issued Against Absconding Husband

While the mother-in-law was granted anticipatory bail, a local court in Bhopal has rejected the pre-arrest bail plea of the victim’s husband, Samarth Singh, who is currently absconding.

To expedite his apprehension, the police have announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for any information leading to the arrest of Samarth Singh.

Conflicting Claims Over the Death

The legal battle is defined by sharply contrasting narratives from both sides:

  • The Victim’s Family: Alleges that Twisha Sharma did not die by suicide but was murdered following persistent demands for dowry.
  • The Accused: Mother-in-law Giribala Singh has vehemently denied all allegations of dowry harassment and murder, counter-claiming that Twisha was undergoing psychiatric treatment and actively battling drug addiction at the time of her death.

With key forensic preservation now being sought from the highest echelons of the judiciary, the focus remains on whether an independent probe will be ordered to uncover the truth behind Twisha Sharma’s death.
