According to the approved list, the Court will observe several major holiday periods throughout the year.
Major Vacations and Holidays:
- Summer Vacation: The Court will be closed for 30 days from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
- Holi Holidays: A six-day holiday period is scheduled from March 2 to March 7, 2026.
- Dashehra Holidays: The Court will observe a five-day holiday from October 17 to October 21, 2026.
- Deepawali Holidays: A five-day closure is scheduled from November 7 to November 11, 2026.
- Winter Holidays: The year will conclude with a seven-day Winter Holiday from December 25 to December 31, 2026.
Other significant holidays include New Year’s Day (Jan 1-2), Republic Day (Jan 26), Ram Navami (March 26), Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), Independence Day (Aug 15), Gandhi Jayanti (Oct 2), and Guru Nanak Jayanti (Nov 24).
Special Provisions and Notations:
The notification includes several key provisions:
- Moon-Sighting Holidays: Dates for holidays such as ‘Id-ul-Fitra (March 21), ‘Id-ul-Zuha (May 28), and *Moharram (June 26) are marked with an asterisk, indicating they “can be re-fixed according to the local visibility of the Moon.”
- Working Saturday: The calendar specifies that the Court “shall also sit on Saturday falling on March 28, 2026 both at Allahabad and Lucknow.”
- Second Saturdays: It is noted that the “Second Saturday of each month will be a holiday.”
- Local and Restricted Holidays:
- January 18, 2026 (Sunday): Will be a local holiday on account of Mauni Amavasya, applicable only for Allahabad.
- March 20, 2026 (Friday): Will be a restricted holiday for Muslims only on account of the Last Friday of Ramzan.
- April 3, 2026 (Friday): Will be a restricted holiday for Christians only on account of Good Friday.
- May 5, 2026 (Tuesday): Will be a local holiday for the Lucknow Bench of the Court only, on account of Mahavir-Ji-Ka-Mela.
- District Judiciary: The notification clarifies that “There is a separate list of holidays for the District Judiciary of Allahabad High Court.”
