The Supreme Court has denied anticipatory bail to Arunkumar Singh, whose son was involved in a fatal Porsche accident that claimed the lives of two motorcyclists in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar. Singh is accused of conspiring to tamper with his son’s blood samples to conceal alcohol consumption at the time of the incident.
Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah upheld the previous decision by the Bombay High Court, which found substantial prima facie evidence against Singh. The allegations suggest that Singh, along with others, attempted to swap his son’s blood samples with those of co-accused Ashish Mittal, in an effort to mislead the investigation following the crash on May 19, 2024.
During the Supreme Court proceedings, it was revealed that Singh purportedly bribed doctors at Sassoon Hospital to facilitate the blood sample swap, using falsified labels to deceive authorities—a critical element in the conspiracy charge under Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The bench noted, “The contention raised on behalf of the applicant that a blood sample is not a ‘document’ pales into insignificance.” This statement addressed the defense’s argument about the technicalities of evidence tampering.
The accident involved a Porsche allegedly driven by Singh’s minor son, who was reported to be under the influence at the time. The vehicle collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two IT engineers early on a Sunday morning. Despite the tragic outcome, the minor was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board shortly after the incident.
