The Supreme Court collegium has recommended that Justice S Muralidhar, currently Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, be appointed Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. In September 1984, Justice Muralidhar began his legal career in Chennai. In 1987, he relocated to Delhi to practise at the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.
