Lucknow | March 25, 2025 — In a strongly worded resolution, the Executive Committee of the Oudh Bar Association at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has vehemently opposed the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation to transfer Hon’ble Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court.
The resolution was passed during an emergent meeting of the Association held today at 1:30 P.M. under the chairmanship of Sri R.D. Shahi, President, and convened by General Secretary Mr. Manoj Kumar Dwivedi. The committee expressed deep anguish over the transfer proposal, calling it an affront to the sentiments of the Bar.
In a scathing statement, the Association declared:
“The past experiences in such matters are sufficient to establish that Allahabad High Court is being used as a dustbin. Oudh Bar Association, High Court, Lucknow is not going to tolerate it.”
The Association condemned the collegium’s recommendation and called upon the Central Government to return it. The resolution further urged that Justice Varma not be transferred to any High Court in Uttar Pradesh, including the Allahabad High Court, and instead be retained in Delhi. Taking the matter further, the Association demanded Justice Varma’s impeachment “to arrest the further damage to public faith in judiciary.”
The resolution also noted that the President of the Oudh Bar Association has discussed the issue with Presidents of 22 Bar Associations of High Courts across India, and plans are underway to raise the matter with the Central Government and the Chief Justice of India.
In a show of solidarity with the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, the Oudh Bar Association resolved to abstain from judicial work on March 28, 2025 (Friday), as a token protest. The resolution also urged other Bar Associations to register strong opposition, including launching an indefinite boycott of Justice Varma’s court in case the transfer is effected.
