Lokayukta of Nagaland Justice Uma Nath Singh Agrees to Resign With Condition

On Monday, Justice Uma Nath Singh, Lokayukta of Nagaland agreed to resign from the post, but his counsel informed the Supreme Court that protection should be granted to Justice Singh from possible malefic litigation launched by Nagaland Government, which is tarnishing his reputation.

Senior Counsel Vikas Singh, who appeared on behalf of Justice Uma Nath Singh, handed over a note to the bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice SA Bobde, mentioning his willingness to resign from the post of Nagaland Lokayukta, subject to the condition that the Petition filed by Nagaland Government be dismissed.

Further the note so given to the Court, also mentioned that the material referred to in the Petition shall not be used for initiating any kind action, proceedings or complaint or any nature whatsoever which may cause stigma to his profession, office or otherwise.

On last date the Court had asked Justice Singh that its better to resign from the post with this kind of relation with the government.
