Karnataka HC Defers Hearing on Ex-CM Yediyurappa’s POCSO Case Plea

In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition by former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, who sought to quash a POCSO case levied against him. The senior BJP leader faces allegations of sexually assaulting a minor girl last year, an accusation that has stirred political circles.

Justice M Nagaprasanna presided over the session where the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) presented crucial evidence, including video recordings and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report. These pieces of evidence are part of the ongoing investigation into the charges that surfaced from a complaint filed in March 2024.

The complaint accuses Yediyurappa of molesting a 17-year-old girl at his residence in Bengaluru in February 2024. The case gained further complexity following the death of the victim’s mother due to lung cancer in May 2024, who had initially accused the BJP leader. Subsequently, the victim’s brother, citing police inaction, filed a petition demanding Yediyurappa’s arrest and a thorough investigation into the matter.

During the hearing, the court also extended the interim orders that grant bail to Yediyurappa, along with an exemption from personal appearances before the trial court. The proceedings have been scheduled to continue on January 17, leaving room for further examination of the evidence and arguments from both sides.
