Important Cases Heard in Supreme Court on Monday, February 6

* In a rare move, the SC decided to hear on Tuesday a plea for restraining lawyer Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri from taking oath as a judge of the Madras High Court, soon after her appointment was notified by the Centre.

* Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud administered the oath of office to five new judges of the Supreme Court.

* SC said it will hear on March 17 pleas dealing with two separate issues of alleged “fraudulent conversions” and challenge to various state laws on religious conversions due to interfaith marriages respectively.

* SC said it would not accept the apologies by members of some bar associations at this stage in a contempt matter related to protests in Odisha and stressed they “must learn to behave.”
