A former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has approached the Calcutta High Court, requesting an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged financial irregularities committed by the institution’s former principal, Sandip Ghosh. The petition, filed on Wednesday by Akhtar Ali, seeks a directive from the court for a thorough ED probe into the alleged misconduct during Ghosh’s tenure at the state-run hospital.
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has granted permission for the petition to be formally filed, signaling the court’s willingness to consider the matter. Ali had previously lodged a complaint with West Bengal government authorities in 2023, accusing Ghosh of financial misconduct. However, the recent developments have prompted Ali to seek intervention from the central agency.
This move comes on the heels of the state government’s decision to form a special investigation team (SIT) on Monday to probe the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The institution has been under intense scrutiny following the tragic discovery of a woman doctor’s body in a seminar hall on August 9, an incident that has drawn national attention.
