Following Supreme Court Circular, Chhattisgarh HC Adopts Virtual Hearings, WFH & Car-Pooling for Summer Vacations

Bilaspur | 19.05.2026, Taking note of Circular F.No. 183/22/2026-SG dated 15.05.2026 and subsequent Circular F.No. 183/23/2026-SG dated 18.05.2026 issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the High Court of Chhattisgarh has initiated administrative measures to ensure smooth judicial functioning. Under the guidance of Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, these steps aim to ensure the optimum utilization of resources under prevailing circumstances.

In this regard, the High Court has issued Circular No. 143 Mis dated 19.05.2026, proposing key administrative and procedural arrangements for the Summer Vacations of 2026:

1. Virtual Hearings during Summer Vacations

  • Video Conferencing: To facilitate smooth judicial proceedings and minimize physical movement during the vacation period, hearings in the High Court may ordinarily be conducted through virtual mode.
  • Physical Appearances: Advocates who are unable to join virtually due to unavoidable circumstances may appear physically before the Hon’ble Court(s).
  • Court Discretion: The Hon’ble Court(s) may also direct physical hearings whenever deemed appropriate.

2. Work From Home (WFH) Guidelines for Staff

  • Hybrid Model: Employees of the High Court and District Judiciary may be permitted to avail of the Work From Home facility for up to two days a week.
  • Office Attendance: To ensure uninterrupted discharge of official duties, at least fifty percent of the staff must remain available in the office.
  • Accessibility: Employees working from home must remain accessible via telephone and other official modes of communication whenever required.

3. Fuel Conservation and Resource Optimization

  • Vehicle Pooling: In an effort to conserve fuel and utilize Government resources effectively, vehicle pooling arrangements have been proposed among State Judicial Officers, Registry Officers, and Ministerial staff of the High Court.
  • Car-Pooling for Hon’ble Judges: To maximize fuel efficiency, the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court have also been encouraged to adopt car-pooling arrangements amongst themselves.
  • Logistical Support: Registry officials are directed to ensure all necessary video conferencing infrastructure and logistical support for the effective implementation of these measures.
