Drama in Varanasi Court After Woman Occupies Judge’s Vacant Chair, Sparks Standoff

A bizarre and chaotic scene unfolded inside the Varanasi District Judge’s court on Friday after an unauthorized woman bypassed security, seated herself in the judge’s official chair, and resolutely refused to vacate it. The unexpected intrusion triggered a tense standoff inside the courtroom, drawing a crowd of legal professionals and prompting an immediate police response.

An Unexpected Occupation

The disruption began when the woman quietly entered the courtroom and took a seat directly behind the judge’s bench. When court staff noticed the individual occupying the highly restricted seat, they immediately requested her to step down.

However, the woman ignored the initial pleas and firmly refused to get up, causing a rapidly growing commotion. Hearing the rising voices and disturbance, nearby advocates, other court staff members, and on-duty police personnel rushed into the courtroom to assist.

Despite multiple warnings and collective appeals from the gathered crowd to vacate the seat, the woman reportedly began arguing with court officials, escalating the standoff.

Security Intervention and Safe Resolution

With the situation at a standstill, the security team deployed at the court complex called in female police officers to handle the extraction. The women cops successfully removed the woman from the judge’s chair and escorted her out of the courtroom.

She was subsequently handed over to the custody of the Cantt police station for further inquiry.

Following an investigation, authorities determined that the woman is a resident of the Shivpur area and is mentally unstable. Speaking on the matter, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Varuna Zone, Pramod Kumar, confirmed that Cantt police officers safely escorted the woman back to her home following questioning.

Local officials noted that the security incident occurred during a temporary lull in that specific courtroom’s daily activities. The District Judge was on leave on Friday, and regular court proceedings had been redirected to another courtroom within the complex, which likely left the bench temporarily unattended prior to the woman’s entry.
