Delhi High Court Upholds Bollywood Actor Rajpal Yadav’s Conviction In Cheque Bounce Cases

The Delhi High Court on Friday upheld the conviction of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in multiple cheque bounce cases, dismissing appeals filed by the actor and other co-petitioners against a trial court’s previous ruling.

Under the verdict, Yadav has been sentenced to three months of imprisonment.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma passed the judgment on a group of criminal miscellaneous and criminal revision petitions. The petitions challenged legal proceedings initiated under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The decision follows several months after the high court reserved its verdict on April 2. The court had delayed its judgment while attempting to help Yadav and the complainant company reach an out-of-court settlement, though these efforts ultimately failed.

Prior to the final ruling, the high court had extended interim relief to Yadav. This extension was granted because the actor had already paid approximately Rs 4.25 crore to the complainant company, a sum that included a Rs 25 lakh demand draft deposited directly with the court.

History Of The Dispute

Yadav was originally convicted and sentenced in 2024 following multiple cases of dishonored cheques under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Separate Legal Challenges

The actor is also involved in a separate legal matter concerning an alleged loan dispute. In that case, a Delhi court issued a non-bailable warrant against Yadav after he reportedly failed to settle a loan. The outstanding debt in that dispute has reportedly increased to approximately Rs 9 crore. Yadav was later granted interim bail in connection with the loan case.
