Delhi High Court Round-Up for Thursday

Important cases heard in the Delhi High Court on Thursday, October 19:

* An organisation, which claims to be working to create awareness among the masses about their constitutional rights, approached HC seeking permission for a public meeting of around 10,000 people at Ramlila Ground later this month after the city police revoked consent calling the proposed event “communal”.

* ED opposed in HC a plea by AAP leader Sanjay Singh challenging his arrest in a money laundering case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy, asserting a “clear cut” case was made out against him.

* HC sought the stand of three city government officials on a plea seeking contempt action against them for allegedly causing damage to century-old “heritage” trees for widening a road.

* HC issued a circular that services of four persons may be utilised on a provisional basis as sign language interpreters in the HC and district courts here till the finalisation of a panel of interpreters.

* HC rejected a plea for disclosure of certain information by the Intelligence Bureau on the basis of “bald averments alleging corruption”, noting that the organisation is exempt from the rigours of the Right To Information (RTI) Act on account of it being specified in the enactment’s schedule.

* HC permitted the termination of a 23-week pregnancy of a married woman, who stated that she had decided to file for divorce and did not want to continue with her pregnancy.
