In a significant development amid the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Atishi Marlena, a prominent minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led government of Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been summoned by a court. The Rouse Avenue Court issued the summons in response to a defamation case filed by Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the media head of the Delhi BJP. Kapoor accuses Atishi of levying unfounded allegations against the BJP, alleging their involvement in attempts to poach AAP legislators.
The Rouse Avenue Court has accepted the defamation lawsuit filed by Kapoor against Atishi and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The court has ordered Minister Atishi to appear before it on June 29.
Tuesday was particularly challenging for AAP. On one hand, the Supreme Court denied immediate hearing on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition to extend his interim bail. On the other hand, the defamation case brought another blow as Atishi was summoned by the Rouse Avenue Court.
