Delhi Court Grants Special Amenities to Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail

In a notable turn of events, a Delhi court has directed Tihar Jail authorities to provide Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with specific amenities, considering his medical condition. The court’s decision came after Kejriwal’s legal team filed an application, highlighting the need for an electric kettle for boiling water and making tea, alongside a request for a table and chair for reading purposes. Kejriwal, who was taken into judicial custody till April 15th due to his alleged involvement in the liquor policy scam, now finds a semblance of comfort through these court-approved conveniences.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court passed the directives on the application filed by Kejriwal’s lawyer. The lawyer argued that the provision of tea in jail is limited to what’s available under jail regulations, thus necessitating the need for an electric kettle. Initially, the court had not issued any directions regarding the provision of a chair and table when Kejriwal was sent to jail on April 1st. However, considering the accused’s medical condition, Judge Baweja accepted the request for an electric kettle and noted that permission for a table and chair for reading had already been granted.

Furthermore, the Special Judge ordered the Tihar Jail Superintendent to provide Kejriwal’s authorized lawyer with a copy of the jail manual, ensuring transparency and adherence to jail regulations. This directive came in the wake of allegations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) accusing the AAP leader of orchestrating the entire Delhi liquor scam, from drafting policies to their implementation.
