Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and a delegation of 25 Supreme Court judges are scheduled for a visit to Araku Valley, Andhra Pradesh on January 12. This trip, including visits to Borra Caves and other significant local attractions, is part of an initiative to engage more deeply with the cultural and environmental landscapes of India.
The tour will begin with a scenic train journey from Visakhapatnam to Araku Valley, where the judges are expected to arrive at 10:45 am. The delegation’s itinerary includes visits to the Tribal Museum and Giri Grama Darshini, where they will have the opportunity to interact with the local Adivasi communities and sample the renowned Araku Coffee. Following these visits, the group will explore the Borra Caves, known for their stunning natural formations.
ASR district collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar, along with Ninth Additional Sessions Judge Chodavaram Ratna Kumar and Joint Collector Abhishek Goud, have already assessed the preparations at the Tribal Museum to ensure a smooth visit. On the day of the judges’ visit, access to the Tribal Museum and Giri Grama Darshini will be restricted to the public, with enhanced security measures in place.
Araku Valley, nestled in the Eastern Ghats, is celebrated for its lush landscapes, organic coffee plantations, and rich tribal culture. This visit is also set to include the Katiki Waterfalls and a deeper exploration of the Tribal Museum, showcasing the history and traditions of the indigenous tribes.
The visit by the nation’s top judicial figures to Araku Valley underscores a commitment to understanding and appreciating India’s diverse cultural heritage and the challenges faced by its indigenous populations. It also highlights the judiciary’s role in promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development within such unique ecosystems.
