Durg, 22 August 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening judicial infrastructure in the State of Chhattisgarh, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh, performed the Bhoomi Poojan and laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new District and Sessions Court Building at BIT College, Durg.
The dignified programme was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Shri Justice Parth Prateem Sahu, Hon’ble Shri Justice Naresh Kumar Chandravanshi, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, Hon’ble Shri Justice Bibhu Datta Guru and Hon’ble Shri Justice Amitendra Kishore Prasad, Judges High Court of Chhattisgarh.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble the Chief Justice stated that, with the cooperation of the State Government, land has been made available for the District Court and that the foundation stone-laying ceremony marks an important milestone in the development of Judicial infrastructure. He emphasised that providing the best possible infrastructure to all District Courts of Chhattisgarh remains a top priority of the High Court.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice also Inaugurated the Cashless Fine Payment System, AFR mobile application (Andriod) & Court Fee Ticket Generation System. Cashless Fine Payment System, an important digital initiative aimed at making the process of challan payment simpler and more convenient for citizens. Hon’ble the Chief Justice further highlighted several other digital and practical initiatives undertaken to make the Justice delivery system more accessible, efficient and citizen-friendly.
He also highlighted the AFR Mobile App as a useful facility for advocates and litigants, enabling them to access Judgments of the Supreme Court & High Court, quickly and conveniently. Further, the Court Fees Ticket Generation System, developed by the IT Team of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, will help address delays caused by shortages of court-fee tickets and enable petitions to be filed promptly without unnecessary inconvenience.
The occasion also witnessed the unveiling of the book “Sandhi Setu”. Describing it as a commendable initiative, it was observed that resolving disputes through mutual settlement and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) can help parties avoid the prolonged process and bitterness associated with litigation. Such mechanisms not only bring parties closer but also facilitate amicable and lasting resolution of disputes.
The new District and Sessions Court Building at Durg is being designed and constructed keeping in view future requirements, with modern facilities and technological capabilities. The new court complex will have adequate parking, improved workspaces, convenient accessibility and modern technological resources. The complex is envisaged to facilitate the conduct of judicial proceedings with greater efficiency, transparency and accessibility, while providing citizens with improved Judicial services in a better environment.
Under the guidance of Hon’ble the Chief Justice, continuous efforts are being undertaken to make Judicial infrastructure modern and people-oriented across the State. The new District Court Building at Durg constitutes an important link in this continuing endeavour and is expected to provide better Judicial services to the people in a more conducive environment.
The programme commenced with the Welcome Address by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Durg, and concluded with the Vote of Thanks by the Principal Judge, Family Court, Durg.
The programme was attended by the Registrar General, High Court of Chhattisgarh; Principal Secretary, Law and Legislative Affairs Department, Principal District and Sessions Judge Durg, Judicial officers of the district Durg, office-bearers and members of the District Bar Association, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Officials of the Public Works Department, Superintendent of Police; and Judicial staff.
