The Allahabad High Court has called for a response from the respondents on a petition seeking to stop the road widening project in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The petition was filed by local residents Abhishek Upadhyay and two others, asserting that the expansion activities were being conducted unlawfully on their property in the village of Kotwa, Phoolpur.
The case, presided over by Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Manish Kumar Nigam, highlighted concerns that the Public Works Department (PWD) marked and partially demolished the boundary walls of the petitioners’ property without proper notification or compensation. The petitioners claim that the department’s actions violate legal procedures as no prior notice was given, nor was any form of compensation offered for the damage caused.
During the proceedings, the court emphasized the necessity for the respondents to provide a comprehensive reply, warning that failure to do so could compel court orders for personal appearances by the involved parties.
This legal challenge arises amid growing discontent among the locals affected by the road widening initiative. The petition also noted that previous attempts to address grievances with the PWD and the district magistrate had been unsuccessful, prompting the residents to seek judicial intervention.
