Delhi High Court Seeks Responses from Police and Deputy CM Parvesh Verma over Alleged Assault on AAP Worker

The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the city police and Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Verma to respond to a plea seeking an independent investigation into allegations that the minister assaulted an Aam Aadmi Party worker.

Justice Sachin Datta issued formal notices to both the police department and Verma, instructing them to file their responses to the status report. The bench has scheduled the matter for its next hearing on November 17.

Protection Plea and Maintainability Challenge

The petition was moved by Sahib Singh, who has sought an independent inquiry into the alleged physical altercation alongside police protection for himself and his family members. During the proceedings, the respondents raised objections regarding the maintainability of the petition.

Background of the Incident

The allegations trace back to September 27, when Verma, who holds the Public Works Department portfolio, was conducting a road inspection in Tilak Nagar and purportedly slapped Singh.

The petitioner stated that he is an associate of Tilak Nagar AAP legislator Jarnail Singh and manages the social media operations for the lawmaker.
