A 65-year-old woman has been arrested in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapura for allegedly performing a black magic ritual inside a courtroom in an attempt to influence the outcome of a civil case involving her family.
Police said the incident took place at around 9.40 am on July 9 inside the courtroom of the First Additional Senior Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate First Class in Chikkaballapura. The woman, identified as Manjula, was arrested on July 11 after investigators examined CCTV footage and acted on a complaint filed by court authorities.
According to police, Manjula was produced before the jurisdictional court after her arrest and was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
Court Authorities File Complaint
The complaint, lodged by Netra, the Chief Administrative Officer of the court, alleged that Manjula entered the courtroom while it was open and scattered white mustard seeds on the judge’s chair and the dais as part of what authorities described as a black magic ritual.
Court staff later noticed the seeds, following which the administration reviewed CCTV footage from the courtroom. The footage allegedly showed Manjula entering the courtroom and scattering the seeds, prompting the complaint to the Chikkaballapura Town police.
Civil Dispute Linked To Investigation
During the investigation, police found that a civil dispute involving Manjula’s family is pending before the same court. Investigators believe she carried out the alleged ritual in the hope of securing a favourable outcome in that case.
Police said Manjula’s brother, Venkatarama, is the third respondent in the pending civil suit. However, investigators have not disclosed the nature of the dispute or provided further details about the ongoing litigation.
Case Registered Under Black Magic Law
Police have registered a case against Manjula under the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Act, 2017. The investigation is continuing.
