BILASPUR – Under the direction of the Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, the Registrar General has officially announced the designation of eleven prominent legal practitioners as Senior Advocates.
The decision was formalized by the Full Court following deliberations held in accordance with the relevant High Court of Chhattisgarh (Designation of Senior Advocate) Rules, 2025. The conferment of the “Senior Gown” is a prestigious recognition of an advocate’s distinguished service, legal acumen, and standing at the Bar.
The New Designees
The practitioners who have been elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate are:
- Shri Shailendra Dubey
- Shri Ranveer Singh Marhas
- Smt. Hamida Siddiqui
- Shri Yashwant Thakur
- Shri Anoop Majumdar
- Shri Neelabh Dubey
- Shri Amrito Das
- Shri Mateen Siddiqui
- Smt. Naushina Afreen Ali
- Shri Arvind Shrivastava
- Shri Tarendra Kumar Jha
The designation process involves a rigorous evaluation by the Full Court, considering the advocates’ expertise, contribution to the development of law, and their conduct before the High Court of Chhattisgarh.
The title of Senior Advocate is granted under Section 16 of the Advocates Act, 1961, which distinguishes advocates into two categories: Senior Advocates and other advocates. This status brings with it certain professional restrictions—such as the requirement to be assisted by a junior advocate and a prohibition on filing wakalatnamas—intended to uphold the highest standards of the legal profession.
The legal fraternity in Chhattisgarh has welcomed the decision, noting that these designations reflect the depth of legal talent and dedicated service within the state’s highest judicial forum.
