The Uttarakhand High Court has directed that the principal of Government Girls’ Inter College (GGIC), Ranipokhri, Dehradun, be allowed to continue in her post after finding no material to justify her transfer.
A division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Subhash Upadhyay was hearing the principal’s petition challenging a recommendation of the education department that proposed transferring her along with several teachers amid allegations of misconduct.
The dispute began when a group of teachers lodged complaints against the principal, followed by protests demanding her removal. Their agitation also received support from the teachers’ union. Taking note of the tensions on campus, the education department constituted a three-member inquiry committee.
The committee eventually reported that it found no evidence of misconduct on the principal’s part. Despite this, it suggested transferring both the principal and the protesting teachers and forwarded the recommendation to the department secretary.
Challenging this recommendation, the principal approached the High Court. During the hearing, Director of Secondary Education Mukul Sati appeared before the bench.
After reviewing the material, the court noted that the inquiry did not substantiate any of the allegations and directed that the principal should be retained in her position.
The matter now returns to the department for administrative compliance with the court’s order.
