Justice M. Sundar Appointed as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court

The President of India has appointed Justice M. Sundar, Judge of the Madras High Court, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur. The appointment was made in consultation with the Chief Justice of India and will take effect from September 14, 2025, the day Justice Sundar assumes charge of office.

The notification was announced by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, who shared the development through his official account on X.

Justice Sundar’s appointment follows the retirement of Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, the present Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, who is set to superannuate on September 14, 2025.

Conveying his greetings, Minister Meghwal wrote, “I convey my best wishes to him.”

Justice M. Sundar has served as a judge of the Madras High Court and now moves to head the judiciary in Manipur. His elevation ensures continuity in the functioning of the Manipur High Court following the retirement of Justice Somashekar.
