NEW DELHI: The Central Government on Friday notified the appointments and extensions of sixteen judges across five High Courts, following the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointments, made by the President of India in exercise of powers conferred by the Constitution, include the elevation of a judicial officer to the bench and the confirmation of several Additional Judges as permanent Judges.
The appointments of permanent Judges are made under Article 217(1) of the Constitution of India, while the appointment and extension of Additional Judges are made under Article 224(1).
Details of the Appointments
The notifications issued by the Department of Justice confirmed the following appointments and extensions:

Andhra Pradesh High Court
Four Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court have been appointed as permanent Judges of that Court. The newly appointed permanent Judges are:
- Shri Justice Harinath Nunepally
- Smt. Justice Kiranmayee Mandava @ Kiranmayee Kanaparthy
- Smt. Justice Sumathi Jagadam
- Shri Justice Nyapathy Vijay
Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court saw two Additional Judges being made permanent and seven others receiving an extension of their terms.
The following Additional Judges have been appointed as permanent Judges:
- Shri Justice Partha Sarathi Sen
- Shri Justice Apurba Sinha Ray
Furthermore, the tenures of seven other Additional Judges have been extended. As per the notification, they have been “appointed as Additional Judges of Calcutta High Court for a fresh term of 01 year w.e.f. 31.08.2025.” The judges whose terms were extended are:
- Shri Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury
- Shri Justice Prasenjit Biswas
- Shri Justice Uday Kumar
- Shri Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta
- Shri Justice Supratim Bhattacharya
- Shri Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee
- Shri Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi
Delhi High Court
Shri Vimal Kumar Yadav, a Judicial Officer, has been elevated to the bench and appointed as a Judge of the Delhi High Court.
Chhattisgarh High Court
Shri Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, who was serving as an Additional Judge, has been appointed as a permanent Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
Karnataka High Court
Shri Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja, an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court, has been appointed as a permanent Judge of the same court.
These appointments are aimed at strengthening the judiciary and ensuring the continued functioning of the benches in the respective High Courts.
