The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday granted interim relief to former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, restraining the state police from taking any coercive action against him in connection with the recent death of a party supporter during his roadshow.
The case pertains to an incident on June 18, when Reddy visited Rentapalla village in the Palnadu district to offer condolences to the family of a deceased YSRCP leader. The leader had reportedly died by suicide a year earlier, allegedly due to harassment by political opponents from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and local police.
While Reddy was en route to the village, a party supporter named C. Singayya was reportedly run over by a vehicle in the convoy. He later succumbed to his injuries, prompting the police to register a case against Reddy and others in connection with the death.

Challenging the FIR, Reddy approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest. Taking note of the plea, the court directed the police not to take any coercive steps against the YSRCP leader until July 1. The matter is expected to be heard further on the said date.
