In Lucknow, a dispute at the Vibhuti Khand police station has escalated tensions between police and lawyers. Following the registration of FIRs against several lawyers, the legal community has intensified its protests. The Awadh Bar Association has declared a strike commencing on March 18th.
The confrontation began during the Holi celebrations at the Vibhuti Khand station. Lawyers filed complaints against 10 police officers, leading to the police charging 150 lawyers in retaliation.
As tensions increased, the Lucknow Bar Association and the Central Bar Association convened an emergency meeting to address the alleged mistreatment of advocates Saurabh Kumar Verma and Rahul Pandey.

During a joint session, 11 resolutions were adopted, including a unanimous decision for a work stoppage by all lawyers starting March 18th.
The response from the legal community has been significant. FIRs have been lodged against nine police officers, including one inspector. Despite this, charges have also been filed against two named lawyers and several others who remain unidentified. The lawyers have issued a warning, stating that the protests will escalate if their demands, including the suspension of the accused police officers and the withdrawal of the cases against the lawyers, are not met.
The strike is expected to disrupt court proceedings in Lucknow, particularly on Monday. Lawyers have vowed to continue their protests until satisfactory resolutions are achieved.
Given the seriousness of the situation, police have heightened security around the court premises and the Hazratganj area. Authorities are closely monitoring developments and have pledged to act swiftly to resolve the issues.
A major demonstration is anticipated in the district court on Monday, and stringent security measures are in place. High-ranking police officials are keeping a vigilant eye on the situation. The Bar Association has also hinted at a potential statewide protest if their grievances are not addressed.
