In a significant development on Thursday, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, recommended the permanent appointment of seven additional judges across three High Courts—Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab & Haryana. This move aims to bolster the judicial strength and efficiency of these critical judicial institutions.
Delhi High Court will see Justices Shalinder Kaur and Ravinder Dudeja elevated to permanent positions, recognizing their contributions and performance as additional judges.
In Karnataka High Court, the Collegium has put forward the names of Justices Ramachandra Dattatray Huddar, Venkatesh Naik Thavaryanaik, and Vijaykumar Adagouda Patil for permanent roles. Additionally, Justice Rajesh Rai Kallangala is set to become a permanent judge starting February 1, 2025, filling an anticipated vacancy.
Punjab and Haryana High Court will have Justice Harpreet Singh Brar joining the bench as a permanent member, reflecting his expertise and the confidence the judiciary places in his legal acumen.
The decisions were part of resolutions passed in the latest meeting of the Collegium, indicating a continued effort to stabilize the judiciary’s functioning by converting meritorious additional judges to permanent positions at their respective High Courts.
