A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court, alleging serious breaches of environmental laws in the Taj Trapezium Zone, a region known for its ecological sensitivity near Mathura. The PIL accuses authorities of illegal tree felling and fraudulent land transactions intended for the development of a residential colony within the protected zone.
Advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami, the petitioner, is seeking the Court’s immediate intervention to rectify the violations and ensure enforcement of environmental laws. The petition, titled “Narendra Kumar Goswami vs. Union of India & Others,” claims that these activities have resulted in the unlawful cutting down of 454 sacred trees and involved land deals worth over Rs 500 crore, posing a significant threat to the ecological balance of the area.
Goswami emphasized the urgent need for judicial action to safeguard the constitutional rights guaranteed under Articles 14 (Right to Equality), 21 (Right to Life), and 25 (Freedom of Religion), which he argues are being compromised by the ongoing environmental degradation.
